My name is Barbara Mulligan. I have lived in Wellington, New Zealand, for most of my life, and for the past 9 years have lived next door to Karori Cemetery. During regular walks with my dog I have become increasingly aware of the size, scale and complexity of the cemetery, and I never tire of its beauty.
I have an agreement with The Wellington City Council, owners and operators of the cemetery, to conduct guided walking tours. I have a BA in English and History, have written one family history book, and am the author of a family history website www.cyrusjohnrichardwilliams.weebly.com. With my husband I have also written a book about ghost railway lines of New Zealand, which is now available in bookshops and online (http://www.fishpond.co.nz/c/Books/q/New+Zealand+Rail+Trails?rid=1151089792). My working life required me to travel extensively, and I lived in London for more than a decade, during which time I went on many guided walks around historic and heritage sites. I continue to do this on regular return visits to England and other places. I have also joined walking tours around Wellington, and on each occasion have learned something new about our beautiful city. I am accustomed to and relaxed about talking to groups of people, and will enjoy interacting with you as we do our tour. |
![]() I walk my dog Dickson regularly around the cemetery, and he has been my faithful "assistant" as I have clambered up and down slopes, strolled along leafy aisles, and noted details of many gravestones.
