Generally speaking, the only indication of passing times throughout the cemetery are seasonal ones affecting grass growth, flowering shrubs and other plants, and bird feeding patterns. Christmas time could therefore pass unnoticed. Someone, however, decided a bit of decoration was in order and twined tinsel around a couple of small trees. But nature also puts on a glorious summer time display. The crimson canopies of the pohutakawa trees , throughout the cemetery as well as all over Wellington have been stunning this year. The northerly wind is doing its best to blow the flowers off, creating a crimson carpet underfoot. The day I took these photos it was so sunny and bright the contrast was more than my camera could deal with, so the end result is a bit washed out. |
