On 31 October in my post “Aloe Aloe Aloe” I confessed I had no idea what name applied to the strange plants which had burst into flower after months of looking like dead sticks. Thanks to Leith I can now advise anyone reading this blog that they are properly called Aeonium arboretum, variety atropurpureum "SCHWARZKOPF". So, they’re “blackheads” – how appropriate. Read more about them on our good friend Wikipedia - http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/AEONIUM/Aeonium_arboreum/Aeonium_arboreum_atropurpureum_Zwartkop/Aeonium_arboreum_atropurpureum_Zwartkopf.htm
Since their brief burst of activity in October they've all reverted to looking like dead sticks again. I guess we have to wait 10 months before they flower again.
