I've checked the records at Karori Cemetery which show that Harry McNeish's burial plot was purchased by
A. Coleman, c/- NZ Shipping Company, Wellington. The most likely scenario after Harry died was that his former employers, the NZ Shipping Co. agreed to manage a collection for purchase costs from amongst waterside workers, and perhaps other NZ Shipping Co. employees. Maybe the company then topped up the fund, or maybe they started the fund and then called for contributions. A. Coleman may have been Company Secretary at the time, or maybe he took the lead in organising the collection. Whatever, a bit more research is called for. Watch this space.
